Dishwasher problem
Dishwasher Won't Start? Door Latch, Control, or Power.
When a dishwasher won't start, it's almost always one of three things: the door isn't latched (or the latch is broken), the control board has failed, or there's a power issue at the unit.
Common causes
What's actually wrong
Door latch / switch
Most common. Dishwashers won't start unless the door latch electronically signals 'closed.'
Control board failure
Touchpad or main board failure on built-in models. Common at year 7-10.
Thermal fuse on control board
On some models, a small thermal fuse on the board pops and disables the unit.
Power supply at the unit
Sometimes the obvious — a tripped breaker or a loose connection at the junction box.
Bosch tension cord broken
On Bosch built-ins, broken cords cause the door not to seat — and the unit won't run.
Before you call
Quick checks you can do
- Check the breaker.
- Open and close the door firmly. Listen for the latch click.
- Try a 'reset' by holding the cancel/drain button (varies by model).
When to call us
Latches and control boards are common replacements. We diagnose with a multimeter — no guessing on parts.
