Washer Leaking Water? Find the Source Before Replacing Anything.
Where the water shows up tells you where the leak is. Front of the washer = door gasket or detergent dispenser. Underneath = pump or tub seal. Behind = hose connection or fill valve.
Common causes
What's actually wrong
Front-load door gasket
The rubber boot around a front-load door tears, traps detergent, or grows mold. Most common front-load leak by far.
Pump seal or pump body crack
The drain pump itself can leak at the seal or develop a body crack.
Inlet hose / fill valve
The hoses behind the washer or the fill valve where they attach can leak. Easy to spot — water at the back.
Tub seal
Less common but more involved repair. Water leaking from underneath during the spin cycle.
Before you call
Quick checks you can do
- Run a wash cycle and watch where the water first appears — front, back, or underneath.
- Inspect the door gasket fold for tears or trapped objects (front-loaders).
- Tighten the inlet hose connections at the wall and at the washer.
- Look for water staining the floor under the unit when it's been sitting unused — slow drips show up.
When to call us
